Why AI-native development is 10x faster — not just hype
We've shipped over 30 products using AI-native workflows. Here's what actually changed, what didn't, and why the speed gains are real.
The claim sounds familiar
Every new tool promises 10x productivity. Most deliver 10% at best. So when we started saying AI-native development is genuinely 10x faster, we expected pushback — and we got it.
But after shipping 30+ products in the last 18 months using AI-native workflows, the numbers speak for themselves.
What actually changed
Code generation speed is the obvious one. A senior dev writing a Supabase schema, auth flow, and API layer from scratch takes 4–6 hours. With Cursor + Claude, it takes 40 minutes — and the output quality is comparable.
Context switching dropped dramatically. Instead of searching docs, Stack Overflow, or asking colleagues, you ask the AI. The answer is there in seconds. Compounded over a full workday, this alone saves 2–3 hours.
Boilerplate is dead. Auth, payments, CRUD — things that used to take days now take an afternoon. We have templates, but even without them, AI reconstructs common patterns faster than copying from old projects.
What didn't change
Architectural decisions still require human judgment. AI will happily generate a technically correct but strategically wrong solution. Knowing what to build matters more than ever.
Debugging subtle issues — race conditions, edge cases in business logic, real-world data surprises — still requires experienced engineers. AI accelerates the search but can't replace intuition.
The real reason it's 10x
The speed isn't from any single tool. It's the compounding effect: faster writing + faster debugging + faster documentation + faster testing + faster code review. Each link in the chain is 2–3x faster. Multiply that across a full product cycle and 10x stops looking like hype.
What this means for founders
If you're building an MVP, the timeline has fundamentally changed. What used to take 3 months can now ship in 2–3 weeks with the right team. But only if that team actually knows how to work with AI — not just use it as a fancy autocomplete.
